Iconic Fireplaces from Your Favorite Hollywood Productions

You’re watching a movie or a T.V. show and suddenly the scene changes to something that’s intense, mysterious, intimate, scary, emotive and exciting—all at once. The ambiance of the room is incredibly important to the scene that’s unfolding before you. Every dialogue’s impact depends on the lighting, mood and scenario the director creates.

With years of experience in offering chimney services in Farmington, CT, we’re used to seeing fireplaces and chimneys of all sorts.  But this blog post lists some of our favorite cinema and T.V. moments depicting them:

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

It doesn’t matter how old you are, Harry Potter is one of the most iconic movies of all time. The incredibly extensive world-building, storytelling and elements of magical realism and fantasy make for an engaging and exciting work of art. However, from the very start something that caught our eye was the fireplace scene in the first movie. As Harry understands his way around the Wizarding World, he learns that fireplaces are actually portals to teleport letters and even themselves.

Home Alone

Nothing says Christmas like a sock on the fireplace and loads of mantel decorations. We love a feel good film like Home Alone and one of the most iconic moments is when Kevin finds himself all alone, placed before his fireplace, surrounded by presents, stockings and a vast, empty home. The fireplace in the back isn’t alight, thankfully, since it’s an underage child alone in a house!

Gone With the Wind

This dramatic classic is one of American cinema’s best, this story revolves around the romantic misfortunes of its protagonist Scarlett. In an incredibly intense scene, she hurls a vase at the fireplace her romantic interest, the broody Rhett is seated in front of. It’s a hilariously terrifying encounter and one that’s etched into every classic film fan’s memory.

Mary Poppins

Last but by no measure the least is this childhood favorite that everyone has probably seen: Mary Poppins! This movie plays with elements of magical realism and creates a world of fantasy for the children on screen, and those sitting in their homes watching it. Our personal favorite is the song about chimney sweeping that Bert leads Mary and the kids through. Chim chimney, chim chimney

Although we can’t guarantee that you’ll be able to transport from one place to another when we’re done with fireplace installations, but yours can look pretty darn magical if you’d like! Get in touch with us to learn more about our work!
