How to Clean Your Outdoor Kitchen

There is something magical about connecting with nature while cooking. But most people keep things casual in an outdoor kitchen. However, even the simplest outdoor kitchen still requires a bit more maintenance if used regularly.

If you’re in the process of building an outdoor kitchen, we strongly advise going for natural-looking materials like granite and stone for countertops. Not only do they have an earthly aesthetic that works well with an outdoor kitchen theme, but they’re also easy to maintain.

Here are a few other ways you can keep your kitchen clean.

Appreciate Stainless Steel

You probably have a lot of stainless-steel appliances in your outdoor kitchen, and if you don’t, you’d better switch. Stainless steel looks sleek and doesn’t rust, making it perfect for outdoor spaces exposed to the elements.

However, while stainless steel will last a long time, it won’t last forever without proper care. Wipe all appliances like refrigerators, sinks, and other steel surfaces with soap water and a soft sponge. Avoid using any chemical cleaners or steel wool as they will cause scratches and rust.

A Wood-Burning Stove Won’t Clean Itself

Many people have wood-burning stoves in their outdoor kitchen. They’re both practical and energy-efficient, making them ideal choices. However, they needs to be well-maintained to function effectively.

You should regularly clean any tar or soot on it with a brush or damp cloth and occasionally apply a coat of stain block on the clean surface. The window can be cleaned using a stove glass cleaner, or you could clean it with wet newspaper and ash—a gentle rub should make the glass shine like new.

Also, make sure to clean out the firebox and invest in chimney services in the fall.

Devote Some Time to The Fireplace

It’s a great idea to have an outdoor fireplace. Not only is it convenient for your outdoor kitchen, but it also creates the perfect ambiance with its warmth and aesthetics. But remember, you might need to put in a bit more effort to clean an outdoor fireplace due to the exposure.

It’s okay if it’s not always immaculate, but make sure to keep it tidy. Remove the ashes and any debris whenever you use the fireplace. Most importantly, make sure your chimney has a cover to keep any water damage to a minimal degree.

Also, make sure to have the chimney thoroughly inspected and cleaned at least once a year.
